Advantages of Invisalign
The Invisalign treatment consists of a series of clear plastic aligners, created precisely to gently and gradually move your teeth into place. Listed below are some advantages that Invisalign has to offer:
Virtually Invisible — Only you will know you're wearing braces.
Completely Removable — Eat, drink, brush and floss, or take them out for special occasions such as weddings, prom, or senior pictures.
Faster Treatment Time — No fixed metal brackets or wires to adjust means you'll spend less time visiting the doctor. You will receive a new set of aligners every other week during your Invisalign treatment.
How does the Invisalign system work?
Impressions of your teeth are taken with the iTero intraoral digital scanner and sent to the lab where your first set of custom prescription aligners are made. You'll receive a new set of aligners approximately every 2 weeks. The aligners are made of ultra-thin clear plastic and they are barely noticeable.
With each new prescription aligner, you'll see progress until your teeth are eventually straight. The average Invisalign treatment can take from 6-15 months, depending on the number of aligners needed to achieve the desired results.
Itero system for more accurate and efficient Invisalign treatment planning
The iTero intraoral digital scanner is a technology that is fully compatible with Invisalign. By using laser and optical scanning technology, it can take digital impressions for easy treatment planning and data storage, and even show patients what the outcome of their treatment will look like using the Invisalign Outcome Simulator.
The iTero scanner replaces the old method of using messy and uncomfortable impression materials to capture the shape and alignment of your teeth. Instead, it uses computer technology to create your aligners from a digital impression.
With traditional molds, there was always the possibility of error, meaning that you would have to do more than one impression. Not anymore. With the iTero scanner, Dr. Alborzi can easily scan your teeth and create a digital impression that is precise and easily stored for later use. Not to mention it is much faster and more pleasant for the patient.
Benefits of the iTero scanner technology
- Fewer, shorter patient appointments
- Advanced digital imaging for much greater accuracy than impressions
- Reduces the hassle and cost of traditional impressions
- Easier treatment planning and preview of the results
Invisalign Outcome Simulator
With this software, Dr. Alborzi can show you a preview of your treatment results from start to finish. The proprietary software, designed by Align Technology, Inc. allows for Dr. Alborzi to show you the outcome of your treatment before you even get your first aligner!
How your aligners are made
First, Dr. Alborzi will scan your teeth using the iTero digital intraoral scanner. This process is fast, easy and comfortable. The digital impressions of your teeth are made viewable in just a few minutes.
A 3D model is created from the digital impression of your teeth, and the data is sent to Align Technology's dental technicians, who use a proprietary software program to create a completely customized Invisalign treatment plan.
The Align Technology technicians use stereolithography computer technology to plan the movements of your teeth. The plan can even be reviewed so that you can see how the whole process works from beginning to end.
The custom treatment plan is sent back to Dr. Alborzi for her final review using the ClinCheck. Once approved by Dr. Alborzi, your custom aligners are created at the Align Technology manufacturing facility.
Advanced automated machines fabricate your custom aligners based on the data from your treatment plan and the completed set of aligners are then shipped directly to our office. Each custom aligner is worn for 2 weeks; and every 6-8 weeks, you will visit Dr. Alborzi for progress checks.
Straight Talk About Crooked Teeth
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
It varies according to each individual patient. On average, it takes anywhere from 6-15 months.
How long do I have to wear my aligners each day?
For the most effective results, Dr. Alborzi recommends that you wear your aligners every day, all day. The only time you should take them out is for eating, cleaning, brushing and flossing.
Is Invisalign painful?
No, but some patients experience minor discomfort for the first few days of wearing a new set of aligners. This is normal, and an indication that Invisalign is moving your teeth as intended. The discomfort should not last more than just a few days.
Will the aligners affect how I talk?
The aligners can potentially affect some people's ability to speak normally. Although, after some time spent getting used to having the aligners in your mouth, any problems with speaking clearly should disappear.
Am I allowed to eat whatever I want?
Some foods and treats are not recommended - such as gum. However, you CAN eat whatever you want. Dr. Alborzi only recommends that you take out your aligners while eating, then brushing before putting them on again.
How do I clean my aligners?
Dr. Alborzi recommends the Invisalign cleaning kit. You can also clean your aligners by brushing and rinsing them in warm water.
How often are check-ups?
Typically, you will visit Dr. Alborzi every six weeks to see how your treatment is going.
