Retainers

A woman's smile

Once your teeth are straight, they will want to shift back into their original position. The retention stage of your treatment begins when your braces come off. In order to keep your teeth straight and your bite aligned, Dr. Alborzi will craft special retainers for you.

Why do I need to wear retainers?

In order to maintain the excellent quality of your treatment, you’ll need to wear your retainers while you sleep at night indefinitely. Dr. Alborzi will let you know if you need to wear your retainer more than just when you sleep.

What kind of retainers will I need to wear?

Most patients wear a clear retainer at night when they sleep. Dr. Alborzi will let you know if you need a different type of retainer to maintain your new smile.

How long will Dr. Alborzi continue to see me once my braces have been removed?

Dr. Alborzi will monitor your retention for approximately two years after your braces are removed.

How long will I have to wear my retainers?

Dr. Alborzi recommends wearing your retainers indefinitely. You’ll need to wear them as many hours per day as it takes to keep them fitting well and your teeth from shifting. If your retainers feel tight each time you put them in, you may need to wear them more than just at night.

How do I clean my retainers?

The best way to clean your retainers is to soak them in hydrogen peroxide or by using denture cleaning tablets. You can place them in your retainer case or in a glass to soak them. You can also brush your retainers with toothpaste to keep them fresh.

Remember to bring your retainers with you to all of your appointments!
